Maria Theresa Chandeliers

The Maria Theresa chandelier is a distinctive style of chandelier, first appearing in Austria in the 18th century. Designed to commemorate the coronation of Maria Theresa on 12th May 1743. Characterised by a rigid flat steel frame in a variety of intricate curved designs. The frame is faced with glass ribs, held in place with small glass rosettes. This creates an illusion that the frame is constructed entirely of glass. The chandelier is dressed, by suspending various crystal pendeloques from each of the glass rosettes. Maria Theresa chandeliers remain highly coveted in modern times.
